Van Oord Chooses NSW Cables for DeBu Inter-Array Grid

Business & Finance

Van Oord has awarded Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke GmbH (NSW), a subsidiary of General Cable Corporation, to design, produce and deliver 45km of medium-voltage submarine power cables for the inter-array grid of the Deutsche Bucht (DeBu) offshore wind farm.

The delivery of the cables is scheduled for spring 2019.

Van Oord, the Balance of Plant contractor (BoP) for the project, will use a specialised vessel to install the wind farm’s inter-array cables.

The 252MW DeBu offshore wind farm is located in the German North Sea, some 95km north-west of the island of Borkum.

The wind farm is owned and developed by Canada’s Northland Power and comprises 31 MHI Vestas V164-8.0MW wind turbines optimised to deliver an output of 8.4MW.

The full commissioning is slated for late 2019.
