Vineyard Wind Victorious in Massachusetts

Authorities & Government

Vineyard Wind has been selected as the winner of the 800MW offshore wind Request For Proposals in Massachusetts.

The final acceptance of the bid and the award of a contract is conditional upon the successful negotiation of the contract and required regulatory approval at the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities.

Vineyard Wind, a joint venture of Avangrid Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, was one of the three bidders in contention for the offshore wind capacity offered under the RFP. The remaining two bidders were Bay State Wind, a joint venture between Ørsted and Eversource, and Deepwater Wind.

Vineyard Wind is proposing to build an 800MW offshore wind farm some 14 miles south of Martha’s Vineyard on a lease area covering some 160,000 acres. The developer plans to enter the construction phase in 2019.

In total, Massachusetts plans to have 1,600MW of offshore wind energy online and operating by 2027.
