ST3 Offshore Hands Over Final Borkum Riffgrund 2 Jackets

Ports & Logistics

Poland’s ST3 Offshore has sent off the last shipment of suction bucket jacket foundations built for Ørsted’s Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.

The final two out of the 20 jackets built by ST3 Offshore for the project left Szczecin on 12 June and headed to Cuxhaven where the remaining 18 units had already been delivered.

Four of the suction bucket foundations have been installed at the site some 34 kilometres North of the island of Borkum, ST3 Offshore said.

The 450MW Borkum Riffgrund 2 wind farm will comprise a total of 56 MHI Vestas 8MW turbines installed on 20 suction bucket jackets and 36 monopile foundations.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up Bold Tern is currently on a sixth run at the wind farm, installing turbines No. 21 through 24. In the fifth run, the first wind turbine was installed on one of the suction bucket jackets.

The wind farm is slated for commissioning in 2019.
