The newbuild joined the Vertom fleet after completing sea trials, the company said.

Built at Thecla Bodewes Shipyards in Kampen, Vertom Willemijn is the seventh unit in the LABRAX series, a fleet of twelve vessels “designed to set new benchmarks for sustainability and efficiency in maritime shipping”. Each vessel is equipped with a diesel-electric propulsion system, featuring four generator sets that are said to minimize energy consumption, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and lower overall maintenance costs.

With a future-ready design, these vessels are prepared to integrate alternative fuels and advanced power sources, supporting the industry’s transition to zero-emission shipping. Each ship has a length of 118.6 meters, a beam of 14.3 meters and a two fully box-shaped cargo holds offering 329,700 cuft capacity.

The Dutch shipbuilder christened and launched the multipurpose ship in December 2024.

Ready to contribute to the global maritime industry’s net-zero goals, Vertom Willemijn joined its six sister ships Vertom Patty, Vertom Cyta, Vertom Tomma, Vertom Anne Marit, Vertom Anette and Vertom Lisa.

In related news, Vertom Group recently placed an order for four pink 10,700 dwt geared multipurpose vessels at India’s Chowgule shipyard. Slated for delivery in 2027 and 2028, the units will have a diesel-electric propulsion system.
