New partnership to provide hydrogen storage and production solutions

EQUANS, an energy services provider, and INOCEL, a company that designs, manufactures and markets hydrogen fuel cells, have signed a partnership agreement to develop an energy storage and production solution using carbon-free hydrogen.

As disclosed, the partnership aims to deliver a “turnkey, high-performance, environmentally-friendly” energy generation solution for a variety of applications, including:

• electrification of docks to limit greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in ports, particularly for ships,
• decarbonized powertrain and electricity generation for ships,
• storage of intermittent renewable energies in hydrogen form for customer on-demand use,
• load shedding and power grid balancing,
• emergency power generation for industrial and commercial infrastructures such as data centers, hospitals, operational buildings and banks, as well as
• mobile generators for off-grid sites or those requiring additional power, replacing diesel generators and batteries.

The partners aim to provide energy storage and generation solutions ranging from 300 kW to several MW. For the hydrogen generator component, INOCEL will provide the fuel cell, while EQUANS will handle containerization. For customers requiring a complete hydrogen solution including hydrogen production, storage and power generation, the partners will, reportedly, combine their expertise and leverage their partner networks across the entire value chain.
