AtoB@C Shipping adds fifth plug-in hybrid vessel to its fleet

Sweden-based AtoB@C Shipping has welcomed the fifth new plug-in hybrid vessel, Maximar, as part of its ongoing fleet renewal program.

The newbuild was delivered on December 20 from Chowgule & Company shipyard in Goa, India, following the launching ceremony held in September 2024.

Maximar is the fifth new plug-in hybrid vessel to join AtoB@C’s fleet within a year. It is part of a series of twelve 5,350 dwt plug-in hybrid vessels AtoB@C Shipping ordered from the Indian shipyard, with one vessel to be delivered every quarter until the autumn of 2026.

ElectramarStellamarEcomar, and Aquamar have already been handed over to AtoB@C while the sixth vessel, Terramar, is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2025.

The vessels feature a gross tonnage of 4,200, a length of 90 meters, and a width of 16 meters.

Designed with hybrid propulsion and shore power connectivity, the ships come with ice class certification, making them fit for efficient and sustainable operations.

In addition, integrating battery technology allows for emission-free and quiet port visits, significantly decreasing CO2 emissions by nearly 50% compared to the current generation of vessels, according to the shipping company.
