The Dubai-based EPIC contractor SCA has appointed the Dutch Enersea to design six cable carousels and loading towers for the Japanese end customer.

The carousels are being fabricated at the Fabtech yard in Dubai and will be shipped to Scotland. Delivery is expected in the second quarter of 2025.

Enersea’s scope includes the concept and detailed design of two 800-tonne carousels, two 1,500-tonne carousels and two 5,000-tonne carousels, as well as the provision of fabrication support.

Sumitomo in May started the construction of what is said to be the UK’s first HVDC cable factory, located at the Port of Nigg. THREE60 Energy is delivering cable storage carousels and cable handling equipment for the power cable factory.

Commissioning is expected in 2026.
