Dieter Korndörffer, Managing Consultant at Enersea, unveiled the launch of Frequensea, at the Enersea & H2Sea exhibition stand, presenting its tool for decommissioning subsea power cables that are no longer in use.

These cables, often buried up to three meters below the seabed, pose substantial removal challenges due to their depth and surrounding soil conditions, the company noted.

According to Enersea, Frequensea’s patented technology employs a vibration-based mechanism to liquefy the soil around the cables, enabling efficient extraction. This not only aids in recovering valuable metals from the cables, but also aligns with the principles of a circular economy by promoting the recycling of materials that would otherwise remain abandoned.

The tool’s capabilities were demonstrated live at the OEEC, drawing interest from industry professionals seeking sustainable solutions for subsea infrastructure decommissioning.

In November 2023, Enersea designed a modular next-level cable installation system (CIS) for DEME’s DP3 multipurpose installation vessel Viking Neptun. DEME acquired the vessel in 2022.
