TechnipFMC, Prysmian join forces on ‘complete water column solution’ for floating wind

Business & Finance

TechnipFMC and Prysmian have signed a collaboration agreement to combine their technologies and expertise and deliver what the two companies say is a complete water column solution for floating wind projects.

The solution encompasses mooring and anchoring and both dynamic inter-array and export cable systems. The collaboration will draw on TechnipFMC’s system design and integration capabilities in dynamic offshore applications and Prysmian’s production and installation of subsea power cable systems.

TechnipFMC and Prysmian aim to deliver the solution through a fully integrated engineering, P-procurement, construction and installation (iEPCI) commercial model which the two partners say would improve project economics and derisk execution plans.

“The collaboration strengthens both companies’ position in this emerging market by providing an integrated solution that accelerates time to first power and reduces cost, while improving overall system reliability. This innovative subsea offering will create significant value for our customers and further differentiate TechnipFMC as the leading architect for offshore energy”, said Doug Pferdehirt, Chair and CEO at TechnipFMC.

TechnipFMC’s track record in floating wind includes the installation of the anchoring system on the world’s first floating wind farm, Hywind Scotland.

Earlier this year, Prysmian completed the installation of the export cable for the 30 MW Gruissan/EolMed floating offshore wind project in France and has also been contracted to supply the cables for the now-completed Provence Grand Large floating wind farm, also in France.
