Germany-based shipping company Elbdeich Reederei has christened the 1,380 TEU eco-friendly ship Elbinsel at the Port of Bützfleth.

This Madeira-flagged ship is expected to soon begin service for Danish short sea operator Unifeeder, which will charter it for several years, Elbdeich Reederei shared in a LinkedIn update.

With a 20,200 deadweight tonnage (DWT), the vessel has an overall length of 170 meters and a beam of 26.9 meters. Its propulsion system is diesel direct.

Both Unifeeder and Elbdeich Reederei expressed gratitude for their partnership, with Unifeeder adding that the companies’ journey “has been defined by our joint commitment to innovation and sustainability, with a particular focus on efficiency.”

Commenting on the vessel, Unifeeder emphasized its fuel efficiency, ice-class capabilities and container intake.

In related news, a naming ceremony was held in October for two new Unifeeder ships. As informed, these vessels, which were named Navios Utmost and Navios Unite, will join the Unifeeder fleet as part of a fleet renewal plan to deploy more efficient vessels as the company continues to test alternative fuels and monitor the availability of fuel supplies.
