The duo aims to replace traditional umbilical power cables with a renewable-powered alternative that uses wave, solar, and battery technologies, providing offshore operators with a greener and more cost-effective power option.

According to Mocean Energy, this collaboration will focus on creating customizable ocean power systems designed for subsea control operations, aligning with global sustainability goals while enhancing efficiency and reducing emissions across offshore developments.

Mocean Energy’s Blue X wave energy converter (WEC), validated through the Renewables for Subsea Power program, will play a key role. The company’s first commercial product, Blue Star, is also set for deployment, supporting efforts to decarbonize oil and gas production.

“This MoU will go a long way to accelerating the development of the innovative technologies needed to deliver low carbon solutions for the offshore energy industry, and we look forward to working with Proserv and pooling our expertise,” said Cameron McNatt, Managing Director at Mocean Energy.

“Together we will work to create and provide customisable ocean power solutions for subsea control systems that will revolutionise the offshore energy sector and the blue economy, while helping to decarbonise oil and gas production.”

The agreement is said to pave the way for renewable-powered solutions that align with both firms’ goals of pushing the boundaries of offshore energy decarbonization.

Proserv CEO, Davis Larssen, added: “The future of subsea control systems must align with global sustainability goals, and by partnering with Mocean Energy, we are driving the development of robust, renewable power sources that can not only reduce operational emissions, but also improve efficiency and reliability in subsea environments.”

“This agreement comes at a pivotal time for the Proserv business as we explore the integration of new technologies such as underwater drone technology for monitoring both wind and oil and gas, amongst other offerings to the wider energy industry, and Mocean Energy will deliver clear synergies in this new partnership.”

Mocean Energy is also working on exploring how wave and solar energy can be coupled with batteries to deliver low-carbon solutions for a range of subsea technologies with a German subsea and marine technology company, SubCtech. The two companies aim to develop customizable ocean power and monitoring solutions using wave, solar, and battery technologies.
