Spanish ferry company Baleària has taken delivery of Margarita Salas, its second LNG dual-fuel fast ferry.

The environmentally friendly ship was handed over to Baleària by Armón Shipyards on July 5, 2024. The handover marked a significant milestone for Armón Shipyards, representing the 1,000th delivery since the company’s founding.

Following the delivery, the newbuild departed Gijón and is en route to Barcelona.

Set to operate on the Barcelona – Mallorca – Menorca route, Margarita Salas is equipped with four dual natural gas engines that allow it to reach speeds of 35 knots.

The 123-meter-long vessel can accommodate up to 1,200 passengers and 425 crew members.

Baleària’s pioneering LNG-powered fast ferry Eleanor Roosevelt has been operating since May 2021. The shipping company invested €90 million in this vessel, said to be the ‘world’s longest fast ferry and the first fast ferry powered by LNG’.
