Norwegian eleven-year-old vessel sports cable lay and trenching equipment (Photo)

A multi-purpose support vessel (MPSV) owned by Olympic Subsea and on charter with DeepOcean has been equipped with cable lay and trenching equipment to be able to install and protect power cables for offshore renewables projects.

The two Norwegian companies entered into a two-year time charter agreement for the MPSV Olympic Ares in March 2023 under which the vessel provides subsea inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR), light construction and recycling services to DeepOcean customers.

The 2013, Norway-built vessel has now been fully equipped for cable lay and trenching operations and will be fully mobilized and converted with cable lay equipment and jet trencher onboard, DeepOcean reported.

Olympic Ares is expected to soon kick off its first offshore wind project execution under DeepOcean’s vessel charter.

DeepOcean’s equipment onboard the vessel currently includes a cable lay highway, a QHS system for second-end pull-ins, a cable carousel, and the T-1000 jet-trencher.

Speaking about recent news coming from the company, DeepOcean reported earlier this month that it had secured its first work with Australian energy giant Woodside Energy, entailing subsea IMR services to be performed at Senegal’s first offshore oil deepwater development. The announcement came shortly after the Norwegian company was appointed to perform a 120-day recycling campaign on the UK continental shelf (UKCS) for an international operator.
