Hy2gen’s subsidiary rebrands, reveals expansion plans

Business Developments & Projects

Hy2gen Norge, a subsidiary of hydrogen company Hy2gen, has changed its name to Hy2gen Nordic to reflect the company’s strategic expansion beyond Norway into other Nordic countries.

Hy2gen said the expansion will involve establishing new partnerships, launching new production projects and exploring innovative initiatives to maximize the region’s renewable energy potential and promote synergies across industries.

Key initiatives in the Nordic expansion include:

  • Plans to set up renewable hydrogen and hydrogen-derivate production plants in strategic locations in Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Denmark;
  • Partnerships with local governments, industries and other renewable energy providers to foster collaboration and accelerate the adoption of green hydrogen technologies; and
  • Investments in research and development to enhance the efficiency and scalability of the company’s hydrogen production processes.

Hege Økland, Managing Director of Hy2gen Nordic, said: “Our new name, Hy2gen Nordic, better represents our vision and commitment to develop innovative renewable hydrogen projects across the entire Nordic region. As we grow, we remain dedicated to our mission of decarbonising carbon-intensive industries through renewable energy production.”

To note, founded in 2019 in Norway, Hy2gen Norge has been involved in developing hydrogen and ammonia projects in Norway to reduce carbon emissions in hard-to-abate sectors such as the maritime industry.

In late 2023, the company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ammonia power solutions company Amogy to collaborate in the field of renewable ammonia in Norway. The agreement encompassed the pooling of resources to advance the use of renewable ammonia as a maritime fuel, participate in joint development projects and secure the safe usage of ammonia on board maritime vessels.
