As informed, the delivery ceremony took place at the Changxing Shipbuilding Base on May 23, 2024.

The vessel was designed by the 708th Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Corporation. It has a total length of 336 meters and a designed service speed of 21 knots. It uses an LNG dual-fuel power system and is equipped with a 14,000 cubic meter LNG cargo tank with a Mark III liquid cargo containment system.

CMA CGM Sao Paulo, which recently completed its sea trials, will feature CMD-WinGD9X9DF-2.0 main engine, developed by China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, and a next-generation intelligent control by exhaust recycling (iCER) system.

The shipbuilder noted that the system can reduce methane slip in gas mode by 50% and greenhouse gas emissions by more than 28%.

Additionally, the containership comes with a huge wind deflector at the bow, which could save 2% to 4% of fuel consumption during actual operation. Furthermore, an energy-saving deflector is installed at the stern, which can improve the propeller propulsion efficiency, reduce energy consumption by about 1.5%, and reduce carbon dioxide gas emissions, according to Hudong-Zhonghua.

The shipbuilding company is constructing six containerships in this series for the French shipping heavyweight. Hudong-Zhonghua recently delivered another 13,000 TEU LNG-powered containership to CMA CGM, CMA CGM Paraty.

CMA CGM Bahia joined the shipowner’s fleet in December last year.
