ITM Power revealed that the collaboration will consist of two phases, with the first phase expected to comprise 50 MW of NEPTUNE Plug & Play electrolyzers across a number of projects, and the second phase 150 MW of larger-scale modular POSEIDON electrolyzers.

Dennis Schulz, CEO of ITM, commented: “Our collaboration with Hygen is an important milestone for both companies and for the UK. We are looking forward to working in partnership with Hygen and its group companies Ryze Hydrogen and Wrightbus over the coming years, together playing a leading role in advancing the green hydrogen economy.”

Jamie Burns, Director of Hygen, noted: “We are determined to lead from the front when it comes to developing and delivering low-carbon hydrogen projects. In order to build this critical infrastructure, we need ambitious partners such as ITM which has impressed us with its focus on the manufacture of quality UK-built products. Hygen’s intent is to deliver low-carbon hydrogen projects in the near term, giving the UK’s net-zero industry a valuable boost.”

As for ITM Power’s other recent activities, it is worth mentioning that in March 2024, the company completed the delivery and installation of a NEPTUNE electrolyzer at Tokyo Gas’ Yokohama Techno Station in Japan. ITM Power said at the time that the unit marks the first deployment of a megawatt-class (MW-class) PEM electrolyzer made overseas and imported into Japan and represents an important milestone on Japan’s journey to carbon neutrality by 2050.
