Deputy Premier Opens Santos GLNG BOC

Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney officially opened the Santos GLNG Brisbane Operations Centre (BOC) – a state of the art facility built to provide 24/7 real-time connection between its head office and gas fields.

The facility is located in Santos GLNG’s Brisbane CBD building and is another key step forward for the Project in minimising its impact on the local communities in which it operates.

Santos GLNG President Mark Macfarlane said the BOC would provide live streaming between critical Brisbane operations, the Project’s infrastructure assets in the Maranoa region and key staff in the gas fields.

“The opening of the Centre today underpins our commitment to safety and minimising our impact on the local communities in which we operate.

“For example, it allows us to pinpoint exactly where we need to undertake maintenance or infrastructure work on a well site so that we can send our expert teams in the field directly to that spot and undertake key activities.

“This enhances safety and minimises our impact on the community by reducing our traffic movements and vehicle requirements and the number of people that would generally be entering a land holder’s property day to day.”

General Manager of Operations Rob Simpson said the BOC was the first of its kind in the Australian oil and gas industry and would fundamentally change the way Santos GLNG operates their gas fields in the Bowen and Surat basins.

“It also gives us the ability to centrally monitor the production and progress of our assets in the Maranoa Region in real time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This includes our compressors, pumps, wells, flow lines, pressure vessels and pipelines,” Mr Simpson said.

“Due to this much faster, structured and targeted approach it means our facilities operate to the highest standards of production because we detect issues early and we are monitoring them in real time.”

The BOC contains 90 large screens, one of the world’s largest touch screens, six simultaneous video conference facilities and 30 kilometres of wiring.

It is currently operating at full capacity for the number of assets the Santos GLNG Project has in the Maranoa Region and this will increase over time as the Project grows.
