As disclosed, the ship was named COSCO Shipping Urugway. It was built by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry (Yangzhou).

The vessel is 335.9 meters long, 51 meters wide, 29.9 meters deep, and has a design draft of 14.5 meters. It is able to travel at a speed of 22 knots.

Surveyed by China Classification Society, the containership is equipped with a highly integrated combined desulfurization system, to meet the strictest 0.1% sulfur emission requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Meanwhile, the intelligent ship system of this vessel is designed to meet the requirements of intelligent navigation, intelligent engine room, intelligent energy efficiency management, and intelligent integration platform in CCS “Rules for Intelligent Ships”.

Furthermore, it can provide decision-making suggestions for routes and speed optimization, and continuously monitor important equipment including ship main and auxiliary engines, shaft systems, and provide fault diagnosis and trend prediction. The intelligent ship system can help reduce the operating costs of ships, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute to green shipping.

COSCO Shipping Urugway is the third of the six 14,100TEU container vessels in this series. COSCO Shipping Brazil, the first vessel of this type, has recently completed its maiden voyage and achieved zero defects in port state PSC inspection.

COSCO Shipping recently revealed that it will retrofit some of its containerships for methanol propulsion. The vessels belong to COSCO Line’s ‘Camellia’ and ‘Virgo’ class, boasting capacities of 13,800 and 20,000 TEU respectively.
