Woodside taps TechnipFMC for more flexible pipe

TechnipFMC has secured a contract with Australia’s energy giant Woodside Energy for the manufacture of flexible pipe.

TechnipFMC will supply infield flowlines and jumpers for Woodside’s Trion project in deepwater Mexico.

The award was included in the company’s inbound orders in the third quarter of 2023.

Jonathan Landes, President, Subsea at TechnipFMC, said: “We worked with Woodside to formulate the best technical solution for this milestone project. This contract is our largest flexible pipe award in the Gulf of Mexico to date, and builds upon the trust we have established with Woodside over many years of successful execution and delivery.”

Located in a water depth of 2,500 meters, approximately 180 kilometers off the Mexican coastline and 30 kilometers south of the Mexico/U.S. maritime border, Trion was discovered in 2012 by PEMEX.

BHP Petroleum acquired an interest in 2017, which subsequently became part of Woodside’s portfolio in 2022. The project will be developed through an FPU with an oil production capacity of 100,000 barrels per day, which will be connected to an FSO vessel with a capacity of 950,000 barrels of oil.

The final investment decision (FID) was announced in June, and Woodside in August received a stamp of approval from the Mexican regulator Comision Nacional de Hidrocarburos (CNH) for the project’s field development plan (FDP). First oil is targeted for 2028.

Woodside and TechnipFMC announced another contract in June, this time for a project offshore Western Australia.

Under the contract deemed as “significant”, TechnipFMC is in charge of the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of flexible pipes and umbilicals for the Julimar Phase 3 development.
