French Floater Applies for EIB Funding

Business & Finance

Quadran Energies Marines has applied for funding with the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the EolMed floating offshore wind project in France.

Quadran is seeking approximately EUR 50 million in the application that has been under appraisal since 21 March, EIB said.

According to the bank, the project’s environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and permitting will be assessed during appraisal for conformity with relevant EU Directives.

The EolMed project will comprise four Senvion 6.2MW turbines installed on Ideol’s Damping Pool floating foundations some 15km offshore Gruissan in an average depth of 55m.

The 25MW floating wind farm is expected to enter construction this year and start operating by late 2020/early 2021 for a period of 20 years.

In February, the European Commission approved French plans to support EolMed, as well as the Groix Belle Ile, Golfe du Lion and Provence Grand Large demonstration wind farms.
