AIDAcosma’s LNG engine room heads for Meyer Werft

Germany-based AIDA Cruises, a Carnival Corporation brand, saw its floating LNG engine room for its AIDAcosma newbuild hit the water for a trip to the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg. 

The 140-meter-long, 42-meter-wide module for AIDA Cruises’ second cruise ship to be operated with LNG in the future left the Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock-Warnemünde and it is heading to the Meyer Werft shipyard.

In May 2021, AIDAcosma’s premiere season begins with cruises to Northern Europe and the Baltic Sea. As early as 2023, the cruise line will be putting its third LNG cruise ship into service, AIDA Cruises said in its statement on Monday.

The heart of AIDAcosma’s floating engine room unit (FERU) are the four dual-fuel engines and three LNG tanks with a total capacity of 3,550 cubic meters.

By October 2021, the ship will be departing from Kiel on weekly alternating cruises to the Norwegian fjords and some of the most beautiful cities on the Baltic Sea. In the 2021/2022 winter season, AIDAcosma will be sailing the Persian Gulf from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
