MHI Vestas Breezes Through Norther

Business & Finance

MHI Vestas has completed turbine installation at the Norther offshore wind farm in Belgium in record time.

“The MHI Vestas installation team, together with our partners, has completed installation at Norther in record time,” said MHI Vestas Chief Operations Officer, Flemming Ougaard“Not only did we finish ahead of schedule despite inclement weather, but most importantly, the project was installed safely.”

According to MHI Vestas, the average installation time for the 370MW project was half of the installation time than at the Burbo Bank Extension offshore wind farm three years ago.

“From the first V164 projects installed by MHI Vestas only 3 years ago, our installation times have progressively improved with the company seeing 50% faster installation times on Norther,” said Vincent Leenders, MHI Vestas Project Director.

The installation of the project’s 44 MHI Vestas 8.4MW turbines was completed last week at the offshore site some 23km off Zeebrugge.

Norther is expected to be commissioned this summer when it will become the largest offshore wind farm in Belgium. It is also the first Belgian wind farm to feature turbines with a 8MW+ individual capacity.
