Baleària’s second LNG-fueled newbuild starts operation

Spanish shipping company Baleària said it said second LNG-fueled newbuild Marie Curie is set to start operations on Friday. 

The company noted that it has incorporated the fourth ferry in its fleet to operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel.

Marie Curie, built at the Italian Cantiere Navale Visentini shipyard, follows its sister vessel Hypatia de Alejandria that started operations earlier this year.

It will operate on the Valencia-Ibiza-Palma starting July 26. Baleària noted that it has invested €200 million ($223.4 million) in the construction of the pair of LNG ferries.

Both of the ships are 186.5 meters long with a maximum speed of 24 knots and the capacity for 810 people, 2,100 linear meters of cargo and 150 vehicles.
