Spanish LNG imports rise in October

Spain’s imports of liquefied natural gas rose 3 percent in October when compared to the same month a year ago.

LNG imports reached some 17.6 terawatt hours (TWh) last month as compared to 17 TWh in October 2017, according to the data released on Thursday by the LNG terminal operator Enagás.

Total natural gas imports, including piped supplies, dropped 8.5 percent to 37.7 TWh. Pipeline supplies from Algeria decreased 24 percent to 12.4 TWh, as compared to 16.4 TWh last year.

Nigeria was the biggest LNG supplier to Spain last month with some 3.9 TWh, followed by Qatar with 3.6 TWh.

Nigerian LNG volumes rose 6 percent year-on-year while volumes from Qatar doubled when compared to October 2017.

The rest of Spain’s October LNG imports were sourced from Peru (2.8 TWh), Russia (2.2 TWh), Trinidad (1.6 TWh), US (1 TWh), Algeria (0.9 TWh), Norway (0.9 TWh) and Dominican Republic (0.3 TWh), according to the Enagás data.

The Barcelona and Huelva regasification plants received five LNG cargoes, each, out of the total 20 cargoes imported into Spain during the month under review.

Cartagena received four LNG cargoes while Bilbao took three shipments last month. The Mugardos plant received two cargoes in October while Sagunto took delivery of one shipment.

There were no reloads last month.
