US LNG exports flat on week, 1st Cove Point cargo arrives in UK

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports from the United States remained flat during the week ending Wednesday, March 21 as the first cargo from the Dominion Cove Point facility arrived in the UK.

Four LNG vessels with a combined capacity of 14.9 billion cubic feet (Bcf) have departed Cheniere Emergy’s plant since Wednesday last week, the Energy Information Administration said in its weekly natural gas report.

One vessel with a capacity of 3.7 Bcf was loading at the terminal on March 21.

The natural gas feedstock to the Sabine Pass terminal averaged 3.2 Bcf/d during the report week, as compared to 3.1 Bcf/d last week.

Cove Point cargo lands in the US

Dominion Energy’s Cove Point facility, the second such facility to ship US shale gas overseas, sent its first cargo on March 2 with a second cargo expected to dock at the export plant in April.

Shell’s Gemmata LNG carrier that lifted the first Cove Point cargo arrived at the Dragon LNG terminal in the UK on March 21 after being redirected in the middle of the Atlantic from heading to South America.

The tanker unloaded a cargo and left the Dragon facility on Thursday, according to the data by the marine data provider, VesselsValue.

This was only the second cargo of US shale gas-sourced LNG to land in the UK since exports from the Sabine Pass plant began in February 2016.
