The US is set to receive a cargo of liquefied natural gas that was partly sourced from the Yamal LNG project in Russia as Engie’s carrier Gaselys has arrived in Boston waters.

As previously reported by LNG World News, the 154,472-cbm tanker Gaselys loaded a cargo of previously imported LNG at the Grain terminal in the UK almost three weeks ago and set its course towards Engie’s Everett import terminal in Boston.

The LNG carrier arrived at Grain shortly after the facility received the first ever cargo from the Novatek-operated giant Yamal LNG plant in the Russian Arctic. The Arctic project was previously financially sanctioned by the US due to Russia’s involvement in Ukraine.

Engie’s North American unit said it bought the spot cargo for delivery to the US from Petronas to replenish storage facilities at its Everett terminal near Boston, depleted by a recent cold snap.

The Gaselys has had a quite a journey from the UK to Boston, according to the marine data provider, VesselsValue.

The Gaselys made a U-turn towards Spain days prior to its arrival in Boston with Engie saying this was to delay the delivery of the cargo due to “weather reasons” in the Port of Boston.

The vessel resumed its course last Friday and arrived in Boston on January 24, its AIS data shows.

The Gaselys was still moored in Boston waters early Thursday and it was not making its way to the Everett terminal by the time this article was published.
