Gas Natural Fenosa moves from Catalonia to Madrid

Spanish LNG operator Gas Natural Fenosa has moved its legal headquarters from Barcelona to Madrid due to ongoing tensions and legal uncertainty in Catalonia.

“Considering the social and political events that have been occurring in recent weeks in Catalonia and due to the legal uncertainty that this causes, the company´s board of directors has agreed, as long as this situation continues to change its registered office to the current corporate offices in Madrid, Avenida de San Luis, 77,” Gas Natural Fenosa said in a statement on Friday.

A series of Catalonia-based companies have announced their decision to shift their legal address from Barcelona to Madrid. Catalonia’s government was planning to make a declaration of independence from Spain this week following a referendum in which two million Catalans voted to break away.

“This decision does not affect those companies of its group that provide their services exclusively in Catalonia, and is adopted to maintain normal operations of the company and in order to protect the interests of the company, its customers, employees, creditors and shareholders,” Gas Natural Fenosa said.

Gas Natural Fenosa has stakes in liquefaction plants in Egypt and Oman, and in regasification plants Saggas in Spain and Ecoeléctrica in Puerto Rico. The company has also a fleet of 9 LNG tankers with a capacity of 1.4 million cubic metres, according to its website.
