Trafigura developing its 2nd Pakistan LNG import project

Trafigura, one of the world’s largest commodities trading firms, is expanding its presence in the LNG infrastructure business with a new liquefied natural gas import project in Pakistan.

The terminal to be located at Port Qasim in Karachi, where Pakistan’s first LNG import terminal is situated, will include a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU).

The trading house has already a minority stake in the Pakistan GasPort project, the country’s second LNG import project that will utilize the FSRU BW Integrity at Port Qasim.

“We plan to develop a second LNG import terminal project in Pakistan, also at Port Qasim, with a jetty, berth and a second FSRU,” a Trafigura spokeswoman confirmed to LNG World News on Tuesday following a report by Reuters.

Trafigura did not provide any additional details on the development.

Worth mentioning, Trafigura has earlier this year revealed plans to reopen the UK’s Teeside LNG import facility which was closed in 2015.

The trader is investing about $30 million in the LNG import terminal and aims to start operations at the facility in the middle of next year.
