Wärtsilä to supply two dual-fuel power plants to Indonesia

Wärtsilä informed that in a consortium with an Indonesian construction company PT PP, it has signed a contract to supply two 57 MW modular power plants to PT PLN, the Indonesian state utility. 

The consortium will be responsible for the complete engineering, procurement & construction (EPC) project, and will also operate and maintain the power plants for a 5-year period, Wärtsilä said in a statement on Thursday.

The power at the two plants, placed in the cities Jayapura and Kendari, will be generated by 12 Wärtsilä 34DF engines capable of operating on multiple fuels, including liquid fuels and natural gas.

The equipment will be delivered during the first quarter of 2017 and the plants are scheduled to be operational during the first half of 2017.

The power plants will run on heavy-fuel oil for the first year, but once the natural gas supply is available both facilities will switch to using natural gas.

Indonesia’s PLNG has awarded an engineering and design services contract to KBR, that includes a feasibility study for LNG regasification and gas supply to gas-fueled power plants, as the company works towards expansion of the gas supply infrastructure across Indonesia.

Wärtsilä has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with PLN and plans to build additional power generation capacity in Indonesia. The company’s installed capacity in Indonesia will exceed 3.2 GW during 2017.
