Important milestone for Tyra as topsides sail away from Singapore

Singapore’s shipyard Sembcorp Marine has built and delivered three wellhead and riser topsides for the redevelopment of the TotalEnergies-operated Tyra gas project in the Danish North Sea.

Noreco, TotalEnergies’ partner in the project, shared the update on Monday, saying that the three Tyra West wellhead and riser topsides sailed away from Sembcorp Marine’s Admiralty Yard in Singapore, transported by heavy transport vessel Bigroll Beaufort.

The delivery includes two wellhead topsides, one riser topside, and two bridges. The transportation of the topsides – with a total weight of 3,485 tons with two bridges – will take a planned pit stop at the Tyra site in the Netherlands to accommodate for an optimal installation window in the North Sea, expected in April, Noreco added.

Euan Shirlaw, Acting Managing Director & CFO in Noreco, said: “The sail away of the topsides is an important Tyra Redevelopment milestone for us and it further progresses the project towards first gas in the middle of next year. Despite COVID-19 challenges, Sembcorp Marine has demonstrated strong and resilient performance by delivering the new topsides for Tyra – last year for Tyra East and today for Tyra West.”

To remind, the three Tyra East wellhead and riser platforms arrived at the Tyra field in Denmark in late August 2021 following a journey from a Sembcorp Marine yard in Singapore.

Shirlaw added: “With a timely sail away from the yard in Singapore, we are excited to welcome the new modules at the Tyra field later this year after a safe voyage. The remaining two 2022 deliveries from the yards in Rosetti and Batam will complete what will be a state-of-the-art facility in the North Sea.”

Once the topsides reach their final offshore location, the world’s largest crane vessel, Sleipnir, will perform the lift of the three topsides onto the new jackets, just like it did for the Tyra East topsides last August. The sail away of the remaining two deliveries – the accommodation unit from Ravenna and TEG from Batam – is scheduled for 1Q and 3Q, respectively, this year. The first gas from Tyra is expected in 2Q 2023.

In November last year, Jacktel’s Haven accommodation jack-up was installed at the Tyra field and started the operation offshore Denmark. The contract is for 20 months with an option to extend beyond the fixed period.

Once redeveloped and at peak production, the completion of the Tyra project will enable the supply of around 60,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, i.e. total production of 200 million barrels over the next 25 years. TotalEnergies operates the Tyra Field on behalf of the DUC – a partnership consisting of TotalEnergies (43.2 per cent), Noreco (36.8 per cent), and Nordsoefonden (20 per cent).

In other recent and Sembcorp Marine-related news, the shipyard last week also completed the Vito Regional Production Facility (Vito RPF) for Shell’s deepwater project in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.
