Flotel secured for Coral-Sul FLNG hook-up ops

Singapore’s shipping company Nortrans has secured a new flotel contract with Technip Energies, one of the contractors for Eni’s Coral FLNG hook-up and commissioning project in Mozambique.

According to Nortrans, this contract has a potential total period of up to 200 days, including options, and will start in February 2022.

Under the new contract, Nortrans will deploy its DP3 500 pax flotel – CSS Temis – for this project. The company will be accommodating up to 400 client personnel on board on a daily basis during the project period.

Temis is an 84 M CSS accommodation support vessel managed by Nortrans.

When it comes to the project in Mozambique, the naming and sail away ceremony for the Coral-Sul FLNG vessel, which is part of the Coral South Project, was held at Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Geoje, South Korea in November 2021.

Following the journey from South Korea, the Coral-Sul FLNG vessel arrived in Mozambique, as reported earlier this week. According to Eni, it is the first floating LNG facility ever to be deployed in the deep waters of the African continent.

The FLNG will be deployed in the Rovuma basin offshore Mozambique where it will produce gas from the Coral offshore gas field. The Eni-operated field has approximately 16 trillion cubic feet of gas in place.

The installation campaign includes mooring and hook-up operations at a water depth of around 2,000 meters by means of 20 mooring lines with a total weight of 9,000 tons. The production startup is expected in the second half of 2022.

The FLNG vessel is 432 meters long and 66 meters wide, weighs around 220,000 tons and has the capacity to accommodate up to 350 people in its eight-story living quarter module. FLNG treatment and liquefaction installation has a gas liquefaction capacity of 3.4 million tons per year (MTPA) and will put in production 450 billion cubic meters of gas from the giant Coral reservoir.
