South Pars Phase 15 platform becomes operational

South Pars gas field’s phase 15 platform has been put into operation, according to Reza Forouzesh, the development manager of South Pars’ phases 15 and 16.

Forouzesh added that at present, six wells of the platform have become operational.

He said that the platform would produce 450 million cubic feet per day of sour gas at the first phase which is sent to a gas refinery for sweetening and injection to gas trunkline.

“At the first phase 31.5 million cubic meters per day of gas will be injected to the gas grid from the phase which will rise to 40 MMcm/d in next few weeks,” Forouzesh said.

In the meantime, initial operations are underway for pre-commissioning of the fourth unit of the gas refinery of phases 15 & 16 which include three sour gas processing units, said National Iranian Gas Company in a statement.

Development plan of South Pars gas field phases 15 & 16 is aimed at producing 56.6 MMcm of gas per day, 75 thousand barrels of gas condensate, 400 tons of sulfur as well as annual production of 1.05 million tons of LPG and one million tons of ethane as feedstock for delivery to petrochemical units.

South Pars gas field currently supplies 300 MMcm/d of natural gas to Iran gas trunklines, which equals 72 percent of the country’s total consumption.

It is estimated gas withdrawal from the giant gas field to rise by additional 100 MMcm/d by the end of current Iranian calendar year.

Furthermore, all the remaining phases of South Pars gas field will become operational by 2017, according to NIGC.
