BG Group looking to join forces with BP in Egypt

BG Group entered talks with BP to try and come to a deal that would link their two gas developments offshore Egypt.

Sources close to the matter say that LNG player BG is looking to inject a spark into its Idku export facility, reports Reuters. The facility has been struggling with gas supply due to Egyptian rising demand that had led to the suspension of exports.

BG is looking to import gas from Israel as well as Cyprus to put the facility back on track and the company entered into talks with BP to connect the infrastructure at its West Delta Deep Marine gas field to BP’s North Alexandria licence.

Sources revealed that BP would send around 350 mcf of gas daily from its undeveloped fields Libra and Taurus to the LNG export plant.

Even though no official comment was issued on the talks, sources revealed that Egypt’s EGAS was involved in discussions.
