Siemens and Petrofac have handed over the 900MW BorWin3 offshore grid connection system in the German North Sea to TenneT.

Siemens

The grid link was handed over following several weeks of testing, and TenneT has now taken over the maintenance and operation of the connection. The link was commissioned in August 2019.

Siemens was responsible for the grid connection system including an onshore converter station.

Petrofac was in charge of the engineering, construction and offshore installation of the platform.

Drydocks World was tasked with the fabrication, commissioning and load-out of the topside, while the jacket foundation and accompanying pin-piles were produced by Heerema Fabrication Group.

BorWin3 connects the 497MW EnBW Hohe See and the 400MW Global Tech I offshore wind farm to the German grid.

It represents TenneT’s twelfth offshore wind project and has taken the company’s offshore transmission capacity in the North Sea to 7,132MW, exceeding the government’s 6.5GW by 2020 target for the German North and Baltic Seas.
