Nexans umbilicals for Equinor’s Bacalhau field

Nexans has won a contract to supply the umbilicals for Equinor’s Bacalhau ultra-deepwater oil project offshore Brazil.

Nexans will design, manufacture and supply a total of 44 kilometers of gas-lift, static and dynamic steel tube umbilicals for installation at water depths reaching 2,100 meters.

This includes 2.5 kilometers of gas-lift umbilical, 35 kilometers of static umbilical, 6.9 kilometers of dynamic umbilical and accessories.

The contract was secured with Subsea Integration Alliance (SIA), which is responsible for the subsea, umbilical, risers, and flowlines (SURF) front-end engineering and design (FEED) contracts for the Bacalhau project.

Nexans’s specialized facility in Halden, Norway, is expected to deliver the steel tube umbilicals in Q4 2022.

Equinor is the operator of the Bacalhau field with a 40 per cent stake, while ExxonMobil and Petrogal hold 40 and 20 per cent each. Pré-sal Petróleo, a non-investor Government agency, is also a partner in the field.

The field, located 185 km from the coast of Ilhabela/SP, is slated for first oil production in 2024.
