Total appoints new president gas, renewables & power

French major Total has appointed Stéphane Michel as the new president of gas, renewables & power (GRP).

Michel has also been added as a member of the Total executive committee, effective 1 March 2021.

The position was previously held by Philippe Sauquet, who left due to retirement.

Stéphane Michel served as senior vice president of the Middle East & North Africa, exploration & production, since January 2014. Laurent Vivier succeeded him in this position in January 2021.

Before that, Michel held the position of managing director of Total E&P Qatar, from 2012 to 2014, and Total E&P Libya in 2011. He joined the Group in 2005, working for Downstream Asia, based in Singapore.

Michel also served as energy advisor to the French finance minister from 2002 to 2004.
