MAKO Turbines adds tidal expert

Business & Finance

MAKO Tidal Turbines, an Australian tidal energy developer based in New South Wales, has appointed Richard Morris as a consultant in the role of Global Strategy Director.

Morris brings to MAKO Turbines almost 30 years of experience in the environmental sector.

He worked for over 10 years in the field of marine renewable energy, including his recent roles as Commercial Director at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC), and the National Renewable Energy Centre (NaREC).

The appointment follows the announcement that MAKO Turbines was selected among the ten companies to receive the grant under EU-backed Funding Ocean Renewable Energy through Strategic European Action (FORESEA) program.

The grant will see MAKO turbines demonstrated at EMEC site in northern Scotland starting in 2017.

As reported earlier, MAKO Turbines also began the testing of its 2.4 meter-wide prototype in the waters of Tasmania.

The project, run jointly with the Australian Maritime College, aims to investigate and optimize the performance of the device.
