Business & Finance

The first turbine foundation for MeyGen Phase 1A project has been deployed in the Pentland Firth, off Caithness.

The foundation, weighing more than 1,000 tonnes, has been installed by GeoSea’s jack-up vessel MV Neptune early this morning, October 7, Atlantis informed on social media.

GeoSea worked alongside James Fisher Marine Services (JFMS), a specialist in dynamic positioning vessel operations in high tidal flow conditions.

In the meantime, the DP2 vessel Aker Wayfarer has arrived to Nigg Energy Facility to start the mobilisation of the turbines for the project.

The total of four 1.5MW turbines, three of which were built by Andritz Hydro Hammerfest, and one is the AR1500 Atlantis turbine, will be installed in the Phase 1A of the project.

As reported earlier, JFMS will install and connect three tidal turbines, and one will be installed by GeoSea.
