Marine surveys tender up for Morlais tidal demo zone

Menter Môn, the third-party manager for the Morlais tidal energy project, has issued a tender for marine surveys to support the development of the Morlais Tidal Energy Demonstration Zone off Anglesey, Wales.

The tender is divided into two lots – one for seabird and marine mammal surveys, and the other for marine geophysical survey.

The data from the marine surveys is required to support environmental impact assessment (EIA) and engineering studies, according to the Welsh government’s procurement portal Sell2Wales.

The total worth of the contract is £400,000, with the deadline set for August 29, 2016.

As reported earlier, Menter Môn engaged Royal HaskoningDHV and MarineSpace to conduct an EIA for the for Morlais project which has already attracted the attention of 12 developers who are bidding for the space within the demonstration zone.

The West Anglesey Demonstration Zone has been designated by the Crown Estate for the development of up to ten renewable tidal power installations with a total cumulative production capacity of 120 MW.
