VIDEO: Floating EcoSPRAY moors turbulent tides

Environment

Check out the video showing the recently deployed EcoSPRAY marine structure designed to gather data in order to provide better understanding of floating tidal energy platforms and their moorings.

The platform has been deployed in Grand Passage between Freeport and Westport, in the Outer Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia.

It is equipped with a drag plate to simulate the thrust created by an underwater turbine. The researchers expect to gain better insights into the impacts of turbulent tides on moored floating structures.

The experiment also includes the equipment to measure motion, mooring line loads, wind speeds, tidal currents, and wave conditions.

Key project partners include Acadia University, Dynamic Systems Analysis, Fundy Tidal Inc, Dalhousie University, and University of New Brunswick.
