Nova Innovation becomes newest member of OEE

Nova Innovation, a UK-based tidal energy company, has joined Ocean Energy Europe (OEE), an industry group representing the renewable ocean energy sector in Europe.

The move comes on the same day as the Scottish tidal stream developer announces the first delivery of power from the Shetland Tidal Array project to the grid, following the installation of the first of three 100 kW turbines.

Rémi Gruet, CEO of Ocean Energy Europe, said: “We are very happy to welcome Nova Innovation as the newest member of Ocean Energy Europe. The first export of power from the Shetland Tidal Array project is a major success for Nova and its European partners, and represents another win for Europe’s ocean energy sector.”

Gruet added the tidal stream sector is having a real ‘break-out’ year in 2016 with flagship deployments due in Scotland and France.

“We are witnessing the birth of an industry,” concluded Gruet.
