EMO Marine scoops Cape Sharp Tidal contract

EMO Marine Technologies has been awarded a contract with OpenHydro for the Cape Sharp Tidal project.

EMO Marine Technologies has designed and developed a turnkey monitoring system for the turbine deployment and recovery platform.

Its monitoring system converts underwater video and sensor data streams into a single fibre-optic cable which creates a real-time and high bandwidth link from the subsea platform to the ‘Scotia Tide’ deployment barge at the surface.

The EMO MUX system allows for constant monitoring and is intended to assist with both deployment and recovery scenarios.

Cape Sharp Tidal, a joint venture formed by OpenHydro and Emera, plans to install and grid-connect a 4 MW tidal array at FORCE site, off Parrsboro in spring 2016.

The array is expected to provide energy to more than 1,000 customers in Nova Scotia. The project is expected to have several phases of growth to include generating 16 MW of energy in 2017, 50 MW in 2019, with the final phase goal of generating up to 300 MW of energy to 75,000 customers in 2020, EMO Marine’s press release reads.
