EMEC: Feedback requested on WEC power performance assessment

International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is seeking feedback on committee draft technical specification that estimates electrical power output from wave energy converters.

In 2009, the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) released a suite of 12 marine renewables standards and guidelines covering assessment of energy resources, performance of devices, guidelines for certification, grid connection, tank testing, and project development.

IEC has used 6 of them as a starting point for technical specification aimed for global adoption as the first international standards for marine renewable energy, according to EMEC.

Due to the necessity for identifying new standards, a regular review of the documents is required, which prompted IEC to release a committee draft technical specification (TS62600-102) for comments which describes how to estimate the electrical power output from a wave energy converter (WEC) at a proposed location, based on information gathered from another existing location.

The IEC committee is now seeking feedback on overall methodology, data filling methods and sufficiency, and changes of wording.

Interested parties are required to contact EMEC to gain access to the draft technical specification for reading and commenting.
