WEC Sim Tool

National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) have released an updated version of WEC-Sim wave energy converter simulator.

WEC-Sim is an open source wave energy converter simulation tool jointly developed by NREL and SNL with funding from the US Department of Energy.

WEC-SIM is developed to aid device manufacturers, project developers, and other interested parties to analyze and optimize proof-of-concept and prototype wave energy conversion (WEC) devices.

This simulation tool has the ability to model devices that are comprised of rigid bodies, power-take-off systems, and mooring systems.

The updated version implements a multi-branch approach, allowing users to use the stable ‘master’ branch or the more advanced/under development ‘dev’ branch.

A public source code is available to developers, regulators, researchers, and other interested parties for download, together with the user’s manual.
