Pumps and equipment are being shipped out to Peru for the scheduled deployment of Atmocean’s wave energy system off Peruvian coastline.

The equipment has been shipped out from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Peru, where the company is planning to deploy a scaled 1/3 demonstration system that will consist of 5 buoys.

The shipment includes 5 pumps that consist of a rod and piston, and are designed to use the tension created by the floating buoys to pull in sea water and pump it to the shore.

The pressurized water will then be transmitted through a seafloor hose to turn the onshore turbine that will generate electricity.

Aside from producing electricity, the water can also be used for desalination to produce fresh water from sea water.

Atmocean has worked with Ballotta Barcos, a Peruvian ship-building company, to produce 5 buoys necessary for the demonstration project.

The deployment of the wave energy system is expected to take place early in May, 2015.
