HIE sets up webinar on GBP 7 mln funding initiative

Authorities & Government

The aim of the webinar is to inform people involved in the development of wave energy technology in Scotland about the GBP 7 mln support set up by the Scottish government.

Highlands and Islands (HIE), through its wholly owned subsidiary Wave Energy Scotland (WES), launched its first GBP 7 mln international technology innovation competition for innovative power take-off (PTO) systems.

Technology developers that require investment to advance their technology through rigorous testing to commercialization are encouraged to apply.

WES’ webinar will be an opportunity for developers to ask questions and hear first-hand about the types of projects that may be supported through this initial fund.

Tim Hurst, interim director of WES, said: “The webinar is an ideal opportunity for anyone to hear about the initial thoughts on how we think Wave Energy Scotland will operate going forward. Our aim is take wave energy technology to a stage where commercialisation is not only possible, but attractive to private investors who may once again re-enter the sector.”
