DECC: Overall renewables share up, wave and tidal down

Authorities & Government

UK Department of Energy & Climate Change has released energy statistics report for the second quarter of 2014.

Electricity generated in the second quarter of 2014 fell by 6.2 percent, from 83.9 TWh a year earlier to 78.7 TWh, the lowest level of generation since 1998.

The share of renewables (hydro, wind and other renewables) increased from 15.9 percent in 2013 Q2 to 16.8 percent in 2014 Q2. This was due to conversion of Drax from coal to biomass, and increased hydro generation, which rose 15.9 percent – from 1.0 TWh to 1.1 TWh.

The generation by wind, PV, wave and tidal fell 10.2 percent from 7.2 TWh to 6.5 TWh.

Final consumption of electricity during the second quarter of 2014, at 71.7 TWh, was 3.2 percent lower than in the same period last year.
