Damen: Mining Sand at Huge Dredging Depths

Business & Finance

The building industry needs a continuous supply of sand, and as the near shore supplies are drying out, dredging is done at deeper concessions.

One of the best tools for the job under these circumstances is Damen DOP submersible dredge pump.

Damen Dredging Equipment recently delivered its DOP Submersible Dredge Pump 450L to a client in Asia for a similar project, the mining of sand at huge dredging depths.

As sand is mined at -70 m, the dredging system has been well considered. The DOP450L, its hydraulic drive hoses as well as the jet water and mixture hoses are guided and hoisted by 2 dedicated gantries, both based next to each other.

On deck, a diesel hydraulic power pack is located to drive the DOP450L, and a separate diesel driven jet water pack supplies pressurized water to the sand mining head.

To keep an eye on the production process, the DOP was fitted out with a pressure indicator, speed indicator and dredging depth measurement. Damen delivered the dredging system as one dredge package including start up assistance by a field service engineer.
