IPC Accepts Application for Galloper Offshore Wind Farm (UK)

Suffolk could see thousands of jobs created by Galloper offshore wind farm.

Yesterday, Independent Planning Commission (IPC) accepted the application from Galloper Wind Farm Ltd for the wind farm development off Surffolk coast.

GWF submittedthe Development Consent Order (DCO) to the IPC in November 2011.

The Offshore wind farm consists of up to 140 turbines and associated onshore and offshore infrastructure, with an installed generating capacity of up to 504MW. It includes new electric downlines and sealing end compounds to connect the wind farm to the existing 400kV network.

The construction is planned to be completed towards the end of 2016.

This is a Round 2.5 windfarm which will be an extension to the Greater Gabbard Round 2 windfarm which is currently under construction on sandbanks 23 kilometers (14 mi) offshore.

After accepting the application, the IPC has approximately three months to prepare for the examination.
