Residents of Maryland Support Offshore Wind Development (USA)

Authorities & Government

A new survey shows that Marylanders support the offshore wind development.

OpinionWorks of Annapolis conducted the survey which indicates that two thirds of voters favor offshore wind even though the end result could be utility bills raised by USD 2 a month.

The main reason for arguing in favor of the offshore wind development was the possibility of creating thousands of jobs in this industry including air quality.

Last year, Gov. Martin O’Malley introduced a bill that required power companies in the state to buy electricity from offshore wind turbines in the Atlantic Ocean.

The legislation did not get through but O’Malley is planning to keep pushing.

Greens are hoping this poll will help lawmakers vote in favor of offshore wind this year.
